When thousands or perhaps tens of thousands of satellites are in near-Earth orbit, the likelihood of collisions and accidents grows. Because of the threat of satellite debris that could hit the space station, the ISS astronauts, including the German Matthias Maurer, were only recently forced to leave the facility in an escape capsule. Due to the absence of traffic laws in space, ESA is constantly under pressure. In order to reduce the risks of satellite growth, ESA and businesses are looking at possible solutions.
