Munich, June 23rd, 2026 – Vyoma, a Germany-based company providing Space Domain Awareness capabilities, announces the successful in-space commissioning of the Flamingo-1 platform. The telescope of Flamingo-1 is the first large-aperture instrument in Europe launched for space-based space surveillance.

The successful platform commissioning represents an important achievement, confirming that all spacecraft systems are performing as expected. Vyoma will now proceed with the commissioning of the Flamingo-1 payload before entering the Routine Operations phase during which the satellite, operated by Vyoma’s own Mission Operations team, will generate space surveillance data around the clock.

Launched in January 2026, Flamingo-1 is equipped with a powerful optical telescope to detect, track and characterize space objects, reliably capturing maneuvering satellites and small debris. It is the first satellite of a constellation designed to strengthen Europe's sovereign space intelligence capabilities. Since the launch of Flamingo-1, Vyoma secured contracts with institutional customers worth multi-million Euros annually.

Flamingo-2, currently in production, is considerably more powerful than Flamingo-1, detecting even centimeter-sized objects in Low-Earth Orbit. It is set to launch and become operational in the first half of 2027, with Flamingos 3 through 12 to follow in 2028 and 2029.

Vyoma’s space and ground segment reflect the company’s expertise and leadership in advancing technologies that align with European strategic and security objectives. Through its data, services and turnkey solutions, the company directly supports Europe's geostrategic autonomy in space.
