Vyoma is the latest player seeking to prevent satellite collisions with space junk

As you may have heard, space is getting congested between the millions of pieces of space junk amassed from decades of launches and the thousand-satellite constellations like SpaceX’s Starlink. However, there is also increasing competition among businesses to develop surveillance systems that would aid satellite and launch operators in protecting their assets from orbital trash.

Vyoma, a German firm spun off from TUM and established by Christoph Bamann, Luisa Buinhas, and Stefan Frey, is one of the most recent players in the market. A constellation of observation satellites is used by Vyoma to track objects in low Earth orbit (LEO), and subsequently, machine learning is used to automate collision avoidance procedures for clients’ satellites.
